Building Relationships

Young people have told us that trust is the cornerstone of successful support. It takes time to build a relationship where trust is present on both sides, and this can be especially difficult for young people who have been let down by adults in the past.

This short 13 slide presentation is designed to stimulate sharing of experience and knowledge, and uses discussion starters and activities to encourage participants to reflect on what they know and to learn from one another. Sections include:

  • Building Trust
  • Seeing the Good
  • Working with Values

NOTE: The session includes a ‘Values Card Sort’ exercise, for which you will need sets of values cards. There are many free downloads available on the internet: this one is free, printable and includes 83 values.

THE RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS, THEY EMPOWER ME, GIVE ME A VOICE, HELP ME TO HAVE AUTONOMY TO MAKE DECISIONS.”
